Without Rev. Fr. Thomas P. Gier, SOLT, perhaps there is no CABASAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL. It was with the earnest effort of this missionary priest that the opening of this school was made possible. He did not stop visiting, insisting to the Schools Division Superintendent Mr. Luis Tayo, and it was approved on March 3, 1976.
By the school year 1976-1977, there were 91 students. In the absence of the appointed teachers, Rev. Fr. Gier, Mr. Dan Thibault (a peace corps volunteer)
Mrs. Marilyn Thibault, a registered nurse, helped in teaching the subjects to the enrollees. Miss Concesa B. Bongais was then the TIC. On June 22, 1976, two teachers were assigned by the Schools Division Superintendent Mrs. Emma Ramos and Ms. Delia Fortes. Being a newly opened barangay high school, many school officials visit the school.
School year 1977-1978 the second year curriculum was approved. Two teachers joined the staff Ms. Elena Barrameda and Mrs. Celeste T. Buelo with 139 enrolled students.
School year 1978-1979, the third year curriculum was approved, Emma Ramos was transferred to the town proper and Ms. Ederlina Bandola took her place and Mr. Cesar Cabria.
When the fourth year curriculum was approved, Ms. Belen Belo and Mr. Ruben Bermundo were added to the faculty members. It was during this school year that for the first time, we produced the first batch of graduates with a total number of 47.
School year 1980-1981, 236 students enrolled. Mr. Cabria transferred to another agency and Miss Flordeliza Espinas replaced him.
During the school year 1981-1982, a registered nurse who graduated from Aquinas University shared his knowledge. Mr. Zaldy O. Abainza taught PEHM and Population Education, in which, his talent in Music, he improved the drum corps of the school.
The very caring missionary priest Fr. Gier was not satisfied seeing the existence of the school without its school site. With his initiative, the Child Sponsorship for Community Development (CSCD) bought the 19,452 sq. m. lot donated it to Cabasan High School.
In 1987, typhoon Sisang struck the place and destroyed many school properties including the school buildings. Good spirited citizens offered houses to serve as classrooms.
During the school year 1989-1990, the Barangay High School was nationalized. The school transferred to their undeveloped school site with only one building to occupy. The ever ready PTA members willingly built the temporary buildings. In the new site Mrs. Delia F. Bermundo was designated as TIC and was appointed Head Teacher after two months. Then two (2) new buildings were constructed and inaugurated on July 7, 1989.
During the school year 1990-1991, Mrs. Elizabeth Botalon, Mrs. Evelyn Bailon, Miss Josefina Nieva, Mrs. Teresa Cerdino, Mr. Renato B. Rosales, Ms. Ruby Odsinada and Mrs. Elsa Balute joined the CNHS faculty. In 1992-1993 with an enrollment of 881, Ms. Grace Anonuevo, Ms. Fe M. Loria, Ms. Grace Calingacion and Mr. Jessie Romero joined the CNHS, and Mr. Justo A. Aguilar became the first principal of CNHS.
The birth of Cabasan National High School provided accessibility to nearby barangay residents whose dream is to at least finish secondary education. A dream that will bring new hope and lead them to a better life…. a better future.
